Is it hard to dye your own hair? Add highlights?

I've always had the salon dye my hair, but it is getting pricey.. When I've seen home coloring, the hair always looks dried out? I am a bit leary. Is it hard to dye your own hair? Add highlights?
I did this, this morning. It's soooooooooooo easy.

Try this: (all in one - color and highlights in ONE at-home kit!)

LOL! Oops, yes, I did. :) I was answering another question on travel and I guess it was still in my clipboard.... I was trying to answer your question so fast... Anyway, I didn't clear my clipboard... so that's how that got there. :)

Have fun with your hair! I bet it'll look fantastic Report Abuse

I dye my own hair all the time! And I'm only 13! The thing is, if you're highlighting, be sure to have a steady hand. If youre dying your whole head, or just are'nt sure if you have the steady-ness, try Lore'al Color Pulse. If you make a mistake, it wont be noticable It will look less bad, and the mistake will be subtle. If you LIKE your job, it will be noticable. TIP: if you get die on your skin, like I always do, wipe it off soon with a wet washcloth and some shampoo. GoOd LuCk!
Odd, today I got my hair straightened, highlighted, and cut and it only cost $85.00 without tips. And I have alot of hair, ( I mean ALOT!)
I dye my hair with highlights at home. It's kind of difficult at first, but will get easier. You shouldn't dye ALL your hair every time, but only once every three months or so. The times in between just do the root touch-ups and maybe some highlight touch-ups if they are really fading.

Go to a store, like Sally's Beauty Supply, get the discount card, and buy: hair color, developer, mixing bowls, brushes, clips, foil wrap, a measuring cup, and gloves. Read the directions on the developer bottle. My favorite brand is Ion. There are usually flyer's with a mixing chart for you hair color and the color you want.

You should also get some intense moisture conditioner or super hair re-builder stuff. It's also good to get shampoo for color treated hair.

Have fun!
I started dyeing my hair at home about 6 years ago and I regret it more than anything. The problem with doing it at home is that it does majorly dry out your hair, and most of the time it does not turn out the right color. If you are lightening your hair PLEASE please do not do it at home. I have had some disasters because it didnt turn out the right color and I had to strip it with a at home strip kit( which tortured my hair) and on top of that you have to dye it immediately after that. I ended up cutting off 11 inches of my hair, I finally decided that I wasnt going to be cheap any more and just go in and get it done. For some reason at home kits just destroy your hair especially if you dye it frequantly. Good luck
i heard the colour u buy at drug stores really damage your hair and dries it out, u want cheap u get cheap
i die my own hair. [i recently put highlights in my bangs]. if youve never died your own hair before, i wouldnt try highlights. but dyeing the whole thing will most likely be fine. make sure to do it on a friday, that way you have the weekend to get used to it, and go to the salon to get it fixed if you must. if you dont try, youll never know if its for you or not so id say go for it. just make sure to read the directions carefully, and spread it thru evenly.
